Auditing the early reporting from New Orleans (rumors vs facts of crimes)

Concerning the rash of reporting, throughout the media, of rapes, assaults on children, and murders at both the New Orleans Convention Center and Superdome; which have turned out to be untrue… could you please look into who was putting out these rumors?

By a timeline, can you investigate who in the media first began speaking of the rumors? It seems that Foxnews lead the rumors and continuously pressed the issue of looters and violence; was this intended to dehumanize the victims who were mostly poor black citizens?

Was there a conscious effort, lead by Conservatives in the media, to demonize those victims and to cover up the lack of Federal response? Or was the media just reporting every unsubstantiated rumor whispered to them as carved in granite fact?
